Banking heroes in coronavirus crisis

As the Philippines and the rest of the world battle perhaps among their biggest crisis, invisible heroes from the various industries are, in their own way, making significant contributions in order for essential businesses to get going.

Union Bank of the Philippines has its fair share of bank heroes, among them  Mary Rose Rodriguez, sales and service assistant at UnionBank branch in San Fernando City in La Union.

Since the start of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon and key areas nationwide, Mary Rose has been biking 20 kilometers to and from her work, daily. According to her, she would not let transportation restrictions break her spirit.

“Having been with UnionBank for six years, this is by far the greatest challenge I have encountered in the bank,” said Mary Rose, 30. “At night, upon arriving from work, when I feel the pain in my legs and in my back, I just tell myself that this too shall pass.”

For Mary Rose and the thousand other workers braving the frontlines, courage, commitment and sacrifice  may just be among the greatest tools to withstand the pandemic.
