Armscor can significantly contribute to the Philippine government’s self-reliant defense posture program especially in light of growing concerns on security and sovereignty.

Armscor Global Defense Inc. is a pioneering Filipino manufacturer that advocates sustainable processes and innovative technology in manufacturing world-class quality firearms, ammunition and defense products. It is the biggest firearms manufacturer in the Philippines and one of the largest in Asia. The Armscor factory in Marikina produces over 253,400 firearms annually. Aside from firearms, it also manufactures ammunition, averaging over 560 million in a year. It currently has over 1,600 employees.

Armscor exports to over 60 countries on six continents, and its market in the United States has been consistently increasing since it opened its first office in Nevada in 1985, followed by its acquisition of the Rock Island Armory brand which is a leading M1911 manufacturer and developer. By manufacturing world-class quality products, Armscor brings the best of the Philippines to the rest of the world.

Key Points:

The Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) program that Armscor has always been supportive of since the mid-‘70s that seeks to develop a domestic defense industry to lessen the country’s dependence on foreign suppliers for its defense and security requirements, especially in light of the tensions in the South China Sea and the situation in the Middle East and Europe.

A clear example that underscores the need for self-reliance is the Marawi siege in 2017 by Islamic terrorists that lasted for five months, almost exhausting the ammunition supply of government troops. Armscor stepped up to the plate, delivering 3,000 firearms in five days and 30,000 rounds of ammunition for government forces. Armscor was the only private manufacturer that was able to supply the AFP during the Marawi siege early on, in contrast with other manufacturers that were only able to deliver nearly four months after the conflict ended.

The Philippine Defense Industry Development Act (PDIDA) which seeks to provide incentives for foreign and local manufacturers to invest in the Philippines, and aims to enhance the country’s efforts to establish a self-reliant defense industry.

Innovation and Expansion Plans

Armscor utilizes automation/robotics to improve the quality of its manufacturing processes, and is constantly finding ways to enhance production efficiency through technology.  Its expansion plans and programs for innovation are designed to increase capacity to supply the growing requirements of the AFP and the PNP, and generate jobs locally.
