Smart Port Solution in China’s Tianjin Port Implements Intelligent Technologies

Products of technology, the innovations that come from the intelligent minds of some groups or individuals should be able to transform lives to a better one. After all, if technology does not help unburden people’s lives, why innovate at all.

So, there are now many innovative solutions which are being used to solve problems that people faced across the world.

As “Knologist” points out, technology and innovation have one big difference and that is, “technology is about making things work” while “innovation is about making things better.”

If technology and innovation sum up to a better way of doing things, the world will notice, and recognition won’t be far behind.

Look at a vital shipping hub in China’s north, the Tianjin Port, which has gotten smart after it was upgraded with intelligent technologies.

According to China Daily, the Tianjin Port management gave full play to intelligent technologies, as the shipping hub, Huawei, and China Mobile implemented smart technologies in its system and operation.

As a result of the implemented intelligent technologies, “the port has built a world-first automated container facility, with intelligent tallying…”

Here’s how Tianjin Port Group in north of China, Huawei, and China Mobile make the shipping hub a hub of intelligent technologies for smart operation:

If you are looking for where Tianjin Port is located, it’s at Bohai Bay in China’s municipality of Tianjin. It is “a pivotal shipping outlet for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and also a crossroad of land and sea routes for the Belt and Road (B&R)“.

“Intelligent technology” includes, but not limited to, artificial intelligence (AI) and Analytics, blockchain, Internet of Things (IOT), Smart Infrastructure, among others.

Doubtless, companies that have upgraded and implemented intelligent technologies have registered big improvements in their operation, making employees’ lives better and at coping with workloads.

Awards may not be far behind either, one shining example is Tianjin Port in Northern China which, together with Huawei Technologies, and China Mobile implemented an upgrade with intelligent technologies.

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, in March 2022, the MWC recognized the Smart Port Solution adopted by Tianjin Port with GLOMO Awards’ “Best Mobile Innovation for Connected Economy“. Tianjin Port, Huawei, and China Mobile implemented the Smart Port Solution.

As Huawei puts it, Tianjin Port’s “cutting-edge solution” has “new intelligent system (that) connects port operations, automating transportation and increasing efficiency, while saving costs and energy“.

Tianjin Port’s Smart Port Solution is using the latest technology at hand, such as intelligent twins, autonomous driving, 5G, cloud computing and IoT that created a better connected, smarter, and more autonomous system, Huawei emphasized.

According to Huawei, here are the highlights of the Smart Port Solution embedded in the system and operation of Tianjin Port:

Solution highlights

  • Integrated: The underlying architecture intelligently connects the various port systems, eliminating data and information silos. All applications work together, powered by the Smart Hub, which centrally manages operations.
  • Safe: All data collection and applications comply with Tianjin Port security policies and the GDPR. Smart video scene with 5G assures the safety of services and operations. At the same time, the network uses the latest security technologies to assure user privacy and network reliability. Finally, integrated and smart O&M quickly identifies and addresses risks and faults.
  • Efficient: Everything is faster and smoother. From start to finish, operations are made more efficient with smart applications and technologies. Processes take minutes instead of hours, while personnel focus on management rather than manual tasks. In the end, goods clear the port faster, signaling larger economic benefits.
  • Green: The first zero-carbon port initiative, Tianjin Port is shifting toward renewable energy consumption. It is substituting fossil fuels and electricity with wind and solar energy. Plus, Huawei’s smart tech is helping optimize and reduce overall energy consumption.

Meanwhile the Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards serves as the industry’s most prestigious accolade, judged by the sector’s most prominent subject matter experts. They take place annually at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. For more information, visit: https://www.mwcbarcelona.com/mobile-awards (/)
