Conquering a new platform through Ask Atty. ‘Migs’

When it comes to the matter of the heart, it may take a back seat at the moment for this go-getter with her sights on building her new brand, Ask Atty. Migs, and a law firm Nograles Ilagan Sagarino Selgas Cayco Aban & Dabi Law (NISSCAD Law) based in Davao as a partner-lawyer.

Lawyer Margarita “Migs” Bendigo Nograles

Margarita “Migs” Bendigo Nograles’ advocacy is to make the legal and justice system accessible to the general public. For this purpose, she created her own show, Ask Atty. Migs, a program that gives free legal aid and advice to people across the nation. “It’s my way of giving back – sharing my knowledge to other people who need it the most,” she relates.

Her firm, NISSCAD Law does a little bit of everything – civil law, criminal law, corporate law, family law, taxation law. In this profession, she measures success by “the number of clients that keep coming back or refer you and the cases that you get to handle and get a positive outcome from.” Whereas, in teaching, “It’s the feedback you get from your students and when they become thankful at the end of the term instead of hating you!”

The well-schooled young lawyer also dedicates her time to teaching in her native hometown Davao

Migs also dedicates her time teaching in four schools in Davao and one in Davao del Norte, where she sits as part of the Board of Directors. She’s the professor for Practicum at Ateneo De Davao School of Law, professor for Legal Forms at Rizal Memorial Colleges School of Law, professor of Practice Court at Jose Maria College School of Law, professor of Legal Profession, Legal Research, Legal Counseling at St. Thomas More School of Law and Business, and Undergraduate professor at the University of Mindanao, Main Campus. She shares that giving back to her native hometown provides a unique sense of purpose by enriching the lives of others through teaching.

Despite being an achiever and well-schooled lawyer, Migs will always be a kid-at-heart. Up to this day, her comfort food remains to be the popular chicken joy brand. Every time she remembers those funny stories of her youth it always radiates happy thoughts.

Ask Atty. Migs, a program that gives free legal aid and advice to people across the nation. “It’s my way of giving back – sharing my knowledge to other people who need it the most,” Migs relates.

“I think I have so many but I could be pretty clumsy and my friends know this especially when I am doing a lot of things and I have a lot of things on my mind,” she relates. “I would bump into things, like glass doors, posts, or fall or slip. And they would always just laugh, and I too would just laugh. I also always was hyper so I would always say the corniest jokes and hirits even until now and they would always just say ‘Hay, nako Nograles, Never ka na nagbago!’”

What did she want to be when she grew up? “I always said I wanted to be a superhero so I can help save people. I think every child wanted to be that – a superhero,” she gushes. Definitely, Migs is a real-life superhero with a big heart for public service for those who have benefitted and will continue to benefit from her teaching and legal practice.
