Eric Egualada Joins Crimson Boracay as Artist-in-Residence
In line with its thrust towards becoming a center for arts and culture in the heart of Boracay, Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay officially opens its doors to its first-ever artist-in-residence Eric Egualada.
An initiative spearheaded by Crimson Boracay general manager Patrick Manthe, himself an artist and admirer of the visual arts, this creative residency will run for four months and include a number of activities that are bound to engage and stimulate everyone’s creativity.
Egualada will be handling on-site painting classes and art-related workshops for guests, local residents and even staff members, as a way of encouraging them to become more creative and expressive.
The ARTS in Youth Program
As artist-in-residence, Egualada will be involved in Crimson’s ARTS in Youth initiative which seeks to develop the talents of a new breed of creatives resident on the island. Through the program, Crimson will sponsor several young students in their artistic education.
The module developed by Egualada covers everything from basic color theory to an introduction to various artistic styles, and the use of different media such as acrylic, watercolors and pastel. The module also features discussions on contemporary and modern art to give these young artists a solid historical foundation for their work.
Lessons began for Crimson’s creative scholars this month and classes are held every Sunday and Monday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Their work will be displayed at the resort throughout the month of November.
Other creative pursuits currently in the pipeline for Crimson include a series of art exhibitions and workshops, art & food events, as well as a series of demonstrations by some of the country’s best visual artists.
About Eric Egualada
A native of Angono, Rizal, a town long known for the brilliance of its native artists which include the famed National Artist for Visual Arts Carlos “Botong” Francisco, Egualada has been painting for over 35 years and is an alumnus of the Jose Rizal University in Mandaluyong where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1991.
An educator as well as an artist, he taught under the Special Program for the Arts offered at the Angono National High School. Likewise, he trained for four years with the Department of Education (DepEd,) the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP,) and the special arts program of the Dalubhasaan sa Edukasyon, Sining, at Kultura (DESK.)
Egualada defines his style as Neo-Art, a style with elements of cubism and figurative realism, which is a melange of various ideas and concepts influenced by the environment he finds himself in.
He was one of the featured artists at Crimson Boracay’s Artistic Revelation featuring actress Anne Curtis as the subject back in March of this year. His work was also featured in Pamana, an exhibition that showcased the work of contemporary Angono artists, at Makati’s Prism Gallery back in March 2018.
